Heat and Wear Resistant Metal Coatings
During the manufacture of wire, heat and friction dissipates from the drawing die as the wire travels at speed. Other areas in the wire manufacturing process where Metal Spray is applied to provide wear resistant coatings is onto wire drawing capstans, wire drawing blocks, wire sheaves, wire drawing rolls, wire guides and wire pulleys.

Wire Pulleys
The use of HVOF, HVAF to apply Tungsten Carbide and the Arc Spray process to apply 420 Stainless steel are popular choices.
The carbide coatings offer excellent protection against the sliding wear of the draw process as well as long term resistance to impact, abrasion, and other complex wear mechanisms. The material matrix is adjusted to suit the application.
Wire Drawing Capstans
Ceramics in powder, rod or Flexicord form are also a common choice for sliding wear, with Chrome Oxide being the most popular as it can be used at service temperatures up to 850°C.

Problem: When the wear is too severe and affects the original size of the capstan, the performances are altered, then creating problems:
- Bad balancing, parasite noise at high frequency increases.
- Wear increases exponentially.
- Risk of production shutdown due to the only capstan.
Coating Solution: We offer three solutions that can be applied with the Master Jet gun:
- ASM Steel Spraying: This is a low-cost solution providing a medium wear resistance. ASM steel doesn’t require “spray and fuse”.
- ROCDUR 6740 Spraying: This solution provides an excellent wear resistance – especially when the capstan is drawing big wires. This solution requires spraying and fusing of the material.
- ROKIDE C Spraying: This solution provides an excellent wear resistance especially when the capstan is drawing small copper wires.
